At PCI Pharma Services in Rockford, IL, teamwork and innovation go hand in hand. As a leader in pharmaceutical contract packaging in the U.S., PCI is known for its expertise in launching new products, starting processes, and developing safe, user-friendly packaging. From child-resistant designs to advanced packaging for medications, PCI’s dedication to quality is evident in everything they do.

Since partnering with IMEC in 2020, PCI has achieved several milestones, one of the most impactful being the introduction of the Kaizen methodology—a structured approach to continuous improvement.

Over several months at PCI, IMEC hosted 19 Kaizen events, guided by IMEC specialist Jim Floyd. Each event brought together 6 to 10 employees, totaling 140 participants across all sessions. These 3-day workshops allowed teams to collaborate, identify challenges, and create real-time solutions.

One of the most notable results was the transformation in teamwork across all levels of the organization. Kenny Hopkins, a senior leader at PCI, shared, “I was impressed with the teamwork.” These events didn’t just fix immediate problems—they shifted the workplace culture. Collaboration became a shared responsibility, empowering employees to work together regardless of roles or titles.

Kaizen also brought senior leaders and floor workers together in a way that broke down barriers. Leaders actively participated alongside their teams, demonstrating that every voice matters in driving improvement. This collaborative environment gave employees a chance to connect, understand each other’s roles better, and contribute to the company’s goals in a meaningful way.
