MOST REWARDING PROJECT?
I truly enjoy working with local manufacturers and seeing the impact our improvements make on the community. Perhaps my most rewarding project so far was when I worked with a manufacturer in my hometown of Freeport on a facility layout project. It resulted in them signing a 10 year lease to stay in Freeport, ultimately retaining and creating jobs in the community.
MOST CHALLENGING PROJECT THAT RESULTED IN POSITIVE IMPACTS?
The one that sticks out in my mind is a small family owned company that had operational challenges, along with company culture and family dynamic issues. With some coaching and persistence, we were able to help this company on their improvement journey. The end result was new sales, two jobs created, new capital spending, and inventory reduction.
NEW INDUSTRY TREND YOU’RE INTERESTED IN PURSUING THAT DRIVES GROWTH THROUGH ENTERPRISE EXCELLENCE?
Industry 4.0 is a big trend that I find interesting - digital manufacturing, “cobots” (collaborative robots that could be a solution for the tight labor market) and other industry 4.0 topics.
COMMON TOPICS NOTICED WITHIN THE INDUSTRY?
Finding, hiring, and retaining quality employees.
MOST USEFUL MEDIA FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT?
I’m a big fan of attending seminars/conferences. It’s tough to beat seeing and listening and interacting in person. But, I also enjoy learning from internet resources like online discussion forums, videos, whitepapers, and books.
