waight_mike121218bMike has a diverse manufacturing background which allows him to connect with different areas of an organization and offer valuable insight at a strategic level. As a Regional Manager at IMEC, he uses his deep understanding of process efficiencies to help businesses in Central Illinois create their competitive futures.

MOST REWARDING PROJECT?

It is rewarding to help any company achieve results. I helped one company in particular implement a new ERP system, and the owner’s feedback was that they could not have completed it without IMEC's support.

MOST CHALLENGING PROJECT THAT RESULTED IN POSITIVE IMPACTS?

I would not narrow this down to one project, but to any ISO 9001 QMS implementation project we have completed. Since deployment of a formal QMS has such a cultural impact on the company, it is not uncommon to experience resistance at first, but then satisfaction a year or two later when the company recognizes how the system has benefited them.

NEW INDUSTRY TREND YOU’RE INTERESTED IN PURSUING THAT DRIVES GROWTH THROUGH ENTERPRISE EXCELLENCE?

I find automation interesting, especially deployment of tools such as wearable technology and smart workstations. The investment cost of automation technology is becoming more affordable for small companies and can really help them provide better tools for their employees, as well as streamline administrative functions such as labor reporting.

COMMON TOPICS NOTICED WITHIN THE INDUSTRY?

The ability to hire and retain employees, especially those in the skilled trades such as CNC machine operator, welders, etc., continues to be a driving concern for most companies.

MOST USEFUL MEDIA FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT?

On-line learning management systems, such as Biz Library, are great tools because they allow the participant to engage in learning modules at a time convenient for the user, and they allow you to keep track of your learning tracks.

“Thoughtful questions will help you understand what really matters to people.” Mike Waight, Regional Manager (IMEC)
