How Efficient is Your Quick Changeover?

What can you accomplish with the time saved on machine or product setup? A quick changeover plan or Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) is a lean manufacturing technique intended to improve process efficiencies. Let’s take a look at how quick changeover is applied on the racetrack.

Much like our friends in the pit stops, manufacturers must be mindful of time spent on setup and teardown of critical manufacturing processes. IMEC and John Wood Community College partner to bring you a one day workshop focused on Lean Tools: Quick Changeover/Setup Reduction. The hands-on simulation workshop will leave participants with techniques for applying Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) to any industry to reduce changeover time from hours to minutes, or seconds.

Throughout the workshop, participants will:

  • Understand how quick changeover/setup reduction supports lean manufacturing
  • Understand key concepts related to quick changeover/setup reduction
  • Learn the principles of SMED
  • Learn to apply SMED using a disciplined, visual process of documentation and improvement
  • Experience a team approach to quick changeover/setup reduction
  • Learn how quick changeover/setup reduction can be applied to support functions throughout the value chain
