Judging companies on development, implementation, and management of a safety program ensuring that ‘every worker makes it home at the end of a workday,’ the Illinois Refining Division of Marathon Petroleum Company LP was presented this award at a recent conference on health and safety.
Presented to Marathon by Illinois Department of Labor Director Hugo Chaviano at the 15th Annual Southern Illinois Occupational Safety & Health (SIOSH) Day Conference held on October 29 at John A. Logan College, Chaviano was quoted in a press release:
“I am proud to present the Governor’s Award for Contributions in Health and Safety to the Illinois Refining Division of Marathon Petroleum Company LP who has helped to ensure that every worker makes it home at the end of a workday,” said Director Chaviano. “We applaud their steadfast commitment to maintain a safe and healthy workplace for employees.”
The Governor’s Award for Contributions in Health and Safety recognizes the efforts of businesses who implement and maintain safe work environments for employees.
Marathon created a program of behavioral safety and is one of 34 companies to achieve certification from Cambridge Institute.
The business is consistently ranked 50 to 90 percent better than average on OSHA inspections and was recognized by OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program, which promotes worksite-based safety and health.
The award was accepted by Kathy Harbison, Kathleen Isom, Joe Cunningham and Nate Bumstead, according to The Southern.
