Northern Illinois University to Host Energy Efficiency Workshop

Manufacturing improvement workshop to focus on energy reduction and enhanced productivity

niu_wordmark_stack_rgb_smOn May 2nd, the Department of Technology and the Institute for the Study of the Environment, Sustainability, and Energy of Northern Illinois University will be presenting a free, half-day workshop for small and medium size manufacturers at the Northern Illinois University Rockford Meeting and Conference Center from 9:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Dr. Kevin B. Martin, Assistant Professor will lead the workshop and focus on assisting participants with identifying and implementing ways to reduce energy use, boost productivity, and achieve measurable energy savings.

The energy efficiency training will include best practices for energy efficiency in lighting, motors and drives, boilers, fans and pumps, and air compressors. In addition, participants will learn to prioritize and implement energy saving opportunities, identify financial incentives, and develop an energy efficiency culture. Also discussed at the workshop will be examples of appropriate uses of energy audit instruments and the utilization of renewable energy in cost effective areas.

Participation for the free workshop will be limited to 20 companies, so interested parties are encouraged to register early. To register, please contact Dr. Martin at kbmartin@niu.edu.
