Mission: Military 2 Manufacturing, one of the largest efforts to help veterans gain a foothold in the manufacturing sector kicks off in Schaumburg on Tuesday, December 18th, the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) announced today. “The manufacturing sector in Illinois is in dire need of thousands of trained workers, and military veterans are in a unique position to meet this demand,” said IDVA Assistant Director Rodrigo Garcia. “Illinois manufacturers are specifically looking for veterans who can bring soft skills and technical experience to their workplaces.”

The "Mission: Military 2 Manufacturing" event, which is different from a traditional hiring fair, will serve to educate veterans and members of the National Guard and the Reserve on available jobs, salaries and career paths available in advanced manufacturing and logistics. Participants will have a free, one-of-a-kind opportunity to network with training experts and like-minded business professionals, as well as meet other veterans who have already made the transition to civilian positions in the manufacturing field. They will also meet employers and agency experts, who will host in-depth breakout sessions on specific training and career opportunities. Each attendee will leave the event with a detailed, personalized plan for the transition into a manufacturing or logistics position.

Numerous other key organizations are supporting and taking part in the event, including the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES), Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Illinois Joining Forces (IJF), Harper College, Daley College, Medusa Consulting Group, the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA), Business and Career Services, Inc. (BCS), Illinois workNet, the Tooling & Manufacturing Association (TMA) and APICS, the Association for Operations Management.

The Mission: Military 2 Manufacturing program will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Mazak Corporation Building, located at 300 East Commerce Drive in Schaumburg, Illinois, 60173. To register, please visit www.military2manufacturing.eventbrite.com, or contact Max Dulberger at IDVA at Max.Dulberger@illinois.gov or (312) 814-5538.
