Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program  applications are now available through the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Do you have new ideas, potential new products and services, or opportunities to connect with technology partners related to some of the following research topics? When applying for this unique opportunity, businesses have a chance to submit proposals for innovative ideas. Research topics for this year’s program include:

  • Advanced Tactile Sensing Technology for Robotic Hands
  • Angularly Sensitive Detectors for Transmission Scanning Electron Microscopy
  • Electronics System for Microscale Thermo-gravimetric Nanoparticle Analysis
  • Enabling Secure BIOS on Enterprise Systems
  • Flowing Water Optical Power Meter for Laser Measurements
  • Highly Multiplexed Spectroscopic Ellipsometer for In-line Process Control
  • Life Cycle Impact Analysis Tool for Sustainable Manufacturing
  • Model-based Smart Manufacturing of Composite Materials
  • Recirculating Temperature Wave Focusing Chromatography
  • Three-Dimensional Test Materials for Solid Supports
  • Workflow Engine for Smart Manufacturing

The technology list above represents merely a sample of the topics to be included in the 2013 SBIR opportunity.  It may appear daunting, but think about what you know about the technology areas? Take a look at the ideas within your company, talk to partners in your region, and ask for help.

If your company applies, you may be selected to move forward with an innovative idea! Companies chosen will also have the opportunity to be awarded a maximum value of $90,000 during Phase I of the SBIR Program. Applications for the 2013 SBIR Program can be found at www.fedbizopps.gov and are due on December 4th.

The small business program is a three-phase approach with Phase I focusing on the feasibility. The experimental or theoretical research and development needed to determine whether the concept or idea is scientific and technically feasible, then determining participation in the next Phase.
