The potential of smart grid technology to spur business innovation, create jobs and benefit consumers throughout the Midwest will be the focus of a major conference in Chicago Oct. 18-19 organized by a consortium of energy, environmental and policy organizations.

The interactive agenda will showcase smart grid best practices from around the country along with innovative technologies and ideas that are spurring innovation, growing state economies, reducing emissions and empowering consumers to conserve and save. Participants will have the opportunity to engage thought leaders on key policy questions, identify investment and job creation opportunities, and learn about projects already underway.

The Symposium aims to advance development and deployment of smart grid technology in the Midwest. Organized by a first-of-its-kind collaboration of policy, energy, environmental, and technology organizations, the symposium will explore the connection between grid modernization, economic development, and environmental impact. Smart grid activity currently underway in the region will also be showcased.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

1. Learn about microgrid and other consumer-centric approaches that are improving reliability and environmental performance.
2. Hear from speakers addressing key environmental and economic opportunities available through the smart grid and how public policies can promote these opportunities.
3. Watch 20 promising start-ups pitch their business ideas to industry leaders.
4. See new technology showcases and demonstrations.
5. Contribute to the Smart Grid Regional Roadmap being developed by the Illinois Smart Grid Regional Innovation Cluster.
